Hermes Craftsmen and Craftwomen
Hermes welcomed us to their meeting "Outside the Walls" at le Carré du Temple.
A very interesting encounter that showds the real "savoir faire" of the French arts and crafts heritage.
Some people just love to buy Hermes items. I cannot blame them, if i had the money, i would do the same: it is a brand that respects the traditions, that ensures that the savoir faire of the French arts and craft tradition resists in a market where nowadays the power of the brands defines as well the quality.
We know that this is not true, but most of us are willing to pay, because of the power of the brand name, hundreds or thousands of euros for a phone, a coat, or a table.... just because it will carry a name. We will not see where it has been made. But we pay. Hermès is a brand proud to say that it's made in France.
I thought i would encounter more students... young people searching for a career to pursue. But i was quite impressed to see that most of the visitors where people between 35 and 60 years old. I thought that beeing a craftman today is not such an easy thing. As far as i could see in Italy, even if we do have incredible craftmen and craftwomen, most of them have lost their job since big brands moved their industries in Asia. It is a work of passion, years of sacrifice, and it is not easy for them.
To maintain the strengh of our arts and crafts is what defines as well our culture, our nation and our traditions that is why it is so important to support brands like Hermès.
I'm sure i will not have enough money to purchase one of their bags, but i don't care actually. I'm not a shopping addict neither. I had the chance to see how they make them and this was very interesting. I feel since i'm a child that there's a craftswoman insiede me... i just never had the chance to discover it when it was the time. Sometimes i tell myself that painting and writing is a way to get closer to this reality, this special way to create, with our own two hands, something unique and meaningful.
See you next post!
Xmas is coming, i'll see if i can share here some picture of Xmas in Paris!
